My Approach

I have been a practicing clinical social worker for over 30 years in the Triangle. As a native Chapel Hillian, I have a vast knowledge of educational opportunities (both public and private) and community and state resources for you and your family. I have a very open-minded, psychodynamic approach to therapy. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), and play therapy when I’m working with children. I have completed two master’s programs at UNC-Chapel Hill in both clinical social work and recreation therapy. I’ve also had the good fortune to train with many leading experts on AD/HD, sensory issues and temperament issues in children. Having a background in recreation therapy gives me a wonderful foundation for incorporating fun, meaningful play into sessions with children. I also offer art, music, games, site visits to schools, medical and dental offices and home visits.

Bentley is a lovable golden retriever who has never met a stranger! He truly adores all humans and other animals, but he has a special kinship with children of all ages. Bentley has had many young clients sit or lay on the floor with him and his love and acceptance is unconditional for everyone. Of course, if you have allergies or would rather he not join you in the office, he is content to sit elsewhere with a bone or toy.

Theo is the newest member of the family and is quickly being trained by Bentley to welcome clients to the practice.  He is a loving, fast learner who hopes to be as wonderful a co-therapist as Bentley!
